One of the things I love so much when in the Southern USA, is seeing the magnolia tree (Mississippi’s has it as its state flower). Its flowers are such big, beautiful showpieces, and fragrant. It amazes me that such tender petals, in beautifully soft, feminine colours, can erupt from such a gnarly branch. But I guess you need a tough shell, when you’ve been around since before the bees.
